In NBA playoff action last night, the Chicago Bulls lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers ending the series in game five of round one. That’s right, the Chicago Bulls lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs. I know, I can’t believe it either, so I’ll write it a third time to get it through: the Bulls lost to the Cavs in the playoffs.
LeBron James Nails the Coffin, Buries Hope.
I realize that it sounds ridiculous to think a team that barely made the playoffs this year would have done anything but lose to the team that is probably going to win the championship, the LeBron James-led Cavs. But I have been mentally stuck in a sports history mode for some time now that had me confidently using 1980s/1990s logic. Until now.
Now I’m convinced that, in sports, the past is emotional hogwash for reminiscent fools. It doesn’t matter that the Bulls won each of the previous five series, including the best-of-five encounter that ended with “the shot.” It’s clearly a new day with another generation ruling it. Jordan is on the Cavs now. And it’s a sad day in Chicago. In D.C. as well, especially for this reminiscing man.
